Teen Age Republicans or "TARS" are members of the organization National Teen Age Republicans. The TARS are an official
auxiliary organization of the Republican Party. There are various TARS clubs throughout the country, at the county and state
level. The TARs provide support to the Republican party and it's candidates.
The TARs are organized in chapters across the nation. There are federations in most states, and clubs in counties and
high schools around the nation. The organization structure consists of:
* National TARs - The National TAR office serves only two main functions
1. To serve as an information clearing house to provide interested teens information on existing clubs or provide resources
and advice on starting a club in areas that do not already have one.
2. Holding a National Teenage Leadership Conference (TLC) at which a closer overview of government on the national level
is given, along with several seminars on being effective leaders and how to assist with campaigns. Awards are also given recognizing
Outstanding Local and State Clubs, and an Outstanding Individual TAR.
* State TAR federations
As in the Republican Party, the majority of TAR involvement takes place on the State level. The State TARs fall under
the control of the State Republican Party. In most states they will receive some financial support from the party. They will
provide a copy of their constitution to the state party and support the platform and candidates endorsed by the state party
in primary or convention. The oldest recorded Teen Age Republican Federation is in South Dakota. This Federation was formed
in 1960. [1] Most state organizations elect an executive board which differs in composition from state to state depending
on their constitution. The executive board represents the members of the organization to the public and to the state party.
In some Federations statewide events are held such as a summer camp or a mock legislative session.
* County and Local Clubs
Subordinate to the State Organization, county or even city or school clubs are formed. These Organizations also elect
an executive Board and assist candidates on the local level.
